The Cheswatyr Foundation

The Cheswatyr Foundation is a small family foundation which supports music in many ways. It was founded in 1997 to produce concerts in a Shaker barn in Tyringham, Massachusettes. At one time, this site was the studio of Walter Damrosch, an important musical figure in turn-of-the-century New York.

Cheswatyr supports music composition, education and performances, regionally, nationally and internationally. It has worked with cultural institutions, such as Radio Station WNYC, Tanglewood Music Festival and The Miller Theatre at Columbia University. It has supported music education programs in Brooklyn, NY, in Great Barrington, MA, and in New Orleans, LA.

Internationally, it has funded music schools and programs in Mexico, Burma, Cuba and Israel.

It continues to commission new works and award grants to performing ensembles and cultural institutions.
